Batanga Acquires LatCom Communications  - November 20, 2006

Batanga.com, which describes itself as America's largest Hispanic streaming media Web site, has agreed to acquire LatCom Communications from Davidson Media Group in an effort to reinforce its ties to what it calls the "New Generation Latino." Terms of the deal have yet to be released.

The deal allows Batanga.com, the Spanish-language site that also produces the Batanga music magazine, to tap into LatCom's college, comedy and music series, and magazines targeting Hispanic college and high school students – "New Generation Latinos." Batanga's hope is that the combination will connect advertisers with a lucrative audience composed of U.S. born second-, third- and fourth-generation Hispanics, who consume English-language media and represent more than $400 billion in estimated purchasing power, according to LatCom projections.

"We understand the diversity of the U.S. Hispanic consumer an their cultural lifestyle, and have ensured that all of our properties – from online destinations to magazines and events – cater to those important Latino roots and heritage," Batanga CEO Rafael Urbina stated in a release.

Peter Davidson, president of Davidson Media Group, said the profit from the sale of LatCom will allow the group to expand its core non-English-language radio operations. DMG owns 44 radio stations in 23 markets, targeting growing immigrant communities in the Southeast and Midwest.
